By choosing to purchase property through the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, you make an exciting positive contribution towards conserving Tasmania's unique biodiversity. The TLC has selected every property primarily for its high ecological value, and each property offers an existing home or an attractive home site. The TLC uses the proceeds of sales to purchase and protect further important properties or to fund its other activities including managing its permanent reserves.

Together, we build a network of areas cherished by owners for their natural values.

Funding

The Revolving Fund activities are funded from a number of sources. The primary funding source is the Australian Government's Forest Conservation Fund. Other funding sources include the King Island Natural Resource Management Group and the Department of Primary Industries and Water. Proceeds from the sale of revolving fund properties are returned the the fund and utilised to purchase further properties.

While limited resources mean we can't buy all the properties we would like to, the TLC is looking for properties to revolve.

The criteria for selection are:

  • Important conservation values
  • Resale potential
  • Financial viability

In addition, through a group of Australian environmental philanthropists led by Jan Cameron's Elsie Cameron Foundation and Rob and Sandy Purves' Environmental Trusts, the TLC's New Leaf Project is able to offer a number of properties formerly owned by the timber company Gunns Ltd. As with revolving fund properties, the majority of the property will be covered with a conservation covenant with the balance available for a house or another suitable form of development. Proceeds from each sale will be used to further the work of TLC including managing its permanent reserves.
